Local receives National award For accounting And Bookkeeping Business

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A Fort St. John accountant was recognized with a national award earlier this week after starting her business in June 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jennifer Desiar, the owner of DESIAR Accounting & Bookkeeping Services, received the Rising Star of the Year at the third annual Sage Circle of Excellence Accounting Awards.

The award program highlights the best of Canada’s accounting and bookkeeping community, recognizing how they went above and beyond to strategically help their clients through their second challenging year since the pandemic.

Desiar moved to Canada in 2008 in hopes of resuming her accounting career after graduating with a double major of BS Commerce in management and accounting in the Philippines.

She worked as a live-in nanny when arriving in Canada. It was the only way to get her permanent residence until returning to accounting in 2013 as an office employee of a pipeline company.

“I love working with people and numbers, but at the same time, I love family time,” said Desiar in a profile with Sage Canada. The pandemic meant Desiar needed to be with her child full-time.

Currently, she works for another company part-time in the mornings while managing her own company in the afternoon and taking an online course in the evenings. She is working to achieve her CPA certification before she turns 50 years old.
